A whole house to gather the family at Christmas
Some times of year call for a big table, everyone together and unhurried hours. In the Minho, Christmas is the most cherished of them all. At Alojamento Rio Neiva, in Tregosa, Barcelos, you rent the entire house — just for your group, with no sharing — featuring 4 bedrooms and space for up to 8 people. There is room to spare for grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren to spend the season together, each with their own corner to rest and everyone gathered around the same hearth of memories.
There are 3 bathrooms (two of them adapted for guests with reduced mobility), heating throughout for the cold winter days, and a spacious open-plan lounge that fits the whole family. Christmas Eve dinner is best made at home, and our kitchen is fully equipped to host it: stove, oven, fridge, crockery and all the utensils to prepare the festive roast, the desserts and the traditional sweets your family loves. There is even a capsule coffee machine to keep the evening going through long conversations and second helpings of pudding.
After dinner, the open-plan lounge opens up for everyone. It has a ping-pong table for the younger ones to burn off energy while the older ones catch up. It is the heart of the house on December nights — warm, relaxed and big enough for all.

Minho traditions and winter calm on your doorstep
The Minho in winter has a serene charm few people know. Without the summer crowds, the villages breathe calm and the cities fill with lights and Christmas markets. Barcelos, about 15 minutes away by car, hosts its fair and nativity scene over the festive season. Braga, some 30 minutes away, is one of the country's most beautiful cities at Christmas, with illuminations across the old town and Bom Jesus just a step away. Viana do Castelo and the Santa Luzia Sanctuary are about 25 minutes away, and Ponte de Lima, Portugal's oldest town, roughly 30 minutes.
